Join Us Wednesday, November 21, 2018 for our 5th Annual “Stuff the Truck” Charity Drive
We have partnered with the Flint Firebirds again this year to help ‘Stuff the Truck’ for those most in need. On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, we will be collecting non-perishable food items, toiletries, bedding and winter wear from members of the community for our friends at Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties. While you are out shopping for your Thanksgiving feast, grab a few extra items and help us fill our truck for those in need.
The event will be held on Wednesday, November 21 (the day before Thanksgiving). We will be there beginning at 4pm until 7pm we will have refreshments and fun before the Flint Firebirds game that evening. The goal is to fill one or more of the C&L Ward’s trucks with non-perishable canned goods and other food, toiletries, warm clothing, blankets and household items during the time of the event. Monetary donations will be accepted, as well.
Our total weights of past donations given:
- 2017, we collected 2,899 pounds
- 2016, we collected 2,653 pounds
- 2015, we collected 1,482 pounds
- 2014, we collected 415 pounds
Please take a few minutes out of your schedule to help us surpass these donation amounts this year!
The event will offer refreshments and a chance to register for a VIP ticket and merchandise package for the December 1st Firebirds game and C&L Ward’s 10K Home Makeover. In addition to the drive, the Flint Firebirds will donate that evening’s earnings from the 50/50 drawing to Catholic Charities. Those wishing to drop off donations prior to November 21st, may do so beginning Monday, November 5th at the Dort Federal Event Center, or our Davison location at 9284 Lapeer Road, Davison. Tickets for the November 21st game will be available at each of these locations when the donation is made.
Non-perishables will be given to Catholic Charities three soup kitchens. Most needed foods are: pasta, tomato sauce, canned vegetables, canned meat, rice, beans, boxed potatoes and stuffing and canned fruit.
Other common items will be donated to the Center for Hope Community Closet at 517 E. Fifth Ave, Flint, MI 48503. Right now they are most in need of bar soap, dish soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant and laundry soap; also gladly accepting of travel-sized and hotel toiletries. There is an urgent need for gently used bedding, basic clothing and winter items: sheets, pillows, socks, underpants, hats, gloves, mittens, coats, snow pants, boots, blankets, etc. They are desperately in need of kid’s coats. They do not have to be new as there are volunteers that will fix coats you may see as unwearable. Items that can be repaired should be put in a separate bag and labeled.
