What Affects the Cost of an entry Door?
Material
C&L Ward offers ThermaTru® steel or fiberglass doors. We often recommend fiberglass as a direct entry door (a door that opens to the outdoors).
For a non-direct door (a door that does not connect the house directly to the outdoors, such as a garage door), steel may be a more affordable and similarly effective choice.
Frame
Door replacement often means stripping the frame down to the studs. A new frame and sill are then installed alongside the new door.
The size of your door frame, any glass features, and material will play a large role in the total cost of door replacement.
The sill under your door is also a part of the frame. We recommend a composite sill for keeping water out. You may want a standard sill or a public access sill.
Glass
Glass is the biggest differentiator in the cost of doors. Glass options are highly customizable, though the size of your glass frame provides a good starting point.
Solid glass will be the most inexpensive, though you may choose to add grilles or select a specialty glass design.
Like windows, glass panes in doors may be engineered or specially coated to help insulate and block ultraviolet light.

A door is ENERGY STAR certified if it is manufactured by an ENERGY STAR partner, has been independently tested, certified, and verified by the National Fenestration Rating Council, and has received an NFRC rating that meets the energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
